2005-05-11 - Celebration 3

Three years ago I made a decision... Three years ago Celebration 2 occured, and I was at home watching the aftermath from afar, and I told myself "no matter what, I am going to Celebration 3 in 3 years." Last year I created this website, and one of the first things I posted was that I was planning to go to this event.

Well, it's been about three weeks since I was there, in Indianapolis, at what I'd been calling "a once in a lifetime event". And it was exaclty what I asked for, a once in a lifetime event. Unless I go to the rumored Celebration 4 in 2007 celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, I'm not really planning on ever experiencing it again.

Don't get me wrong, I had an amazing time. I saw some old friends, and some new ones. I hung out with the 501st, whithout whom I probably wouldn't have made it to the con. I spent the weekend with my wonderful Clonetrooper boyfriend who's as crazy as I am. I had a had numerous experiences that I'll cherish forever... however, as a con... It could have gone better for me.

It started the first night when I couldn't really get to my stuff and I slept with my contacts in. I get up the next morning and wear my Padme Clone Wars gown as planned, but have to walk through the rain, and in the process had a bit of an anger management issue because of a number of factors that just seemd to culminate in the wrong way. I'm still not sure how Jon, my boyfriend, put up with me in that moment. But he did... anyway, I meet some people, get some pictures taken, then a friend of mine finds me and procedes to tell me how red my eyes are. They were scratchy but I thought it was just dry and alergies. I look in a mirror. I LOOK LIKE I'M PADME TURNED SITH. There is absolutely no white to my eyeballs, all red. I'm demonic, I'm angry, and I'm uncomfortable. I meet back up with Jon who's been in armor for the better part of somewhere between 4-6 hours, and I FINALLY take out my contacts. Needless to say, I can't put them back in... so I can't get into most of my costumes. I can't get into ANY.

Here is where most of my anger comes from about this con... I had a blast, yes, but I'M A COSTUMER! I brought 6 costumes with me that weekend. I only wore 2 because I refuse to wear costumes with glasses. It's a pet peeve of mine to see a costume on ANYONE, wonderfully complex or as simple as a robe, and yet see glasses. It's just a personal preference I supose.

So basically, RoseGuard was at Celebration3 and yet I never actually wore ANYTHING Royal Guard related. I would have ADORED to show off RoseGuard, or even just march for a few hours with the regular Guard costume, but alas, I can't wear my helmet with my glasses on, and I can't see without my contacts, and I couldn't put my contacts in. :(

I did brave contacts once Saturday night, with another costume. My revamped Twi'lek with new Lekku headdress. That actually wen't over really well, and honestly I can say that the fun I had Saturday night with Jon, and our friends Tammy and Loki made the entire experience worth it. It really did. Celebration @ Celebration was a blast once we got warmed up. And lunch with some other friends Sunday shortly before we left was a memory of a lifetime. "Kracken!!!"

So yeah, RoseGuard went to Celebration 3 finally and had a blast, yet never actually costumed profusely or even wore RoseGuard itself. But hey, I can still say I went, and I can say I had once in a lifetime experience. Just what I asked for! :)
